We'd been in Mambukal Resort at Minoyan, Murcia Negros Occidental last December 28, 2007 to spend time and celebrate the togetherness of our Family on this Special Season. We stay there for several days. Our family occupy 3 LGU Cottages (not so huge family i guess... Laugh Out Loud) and I can say that Mambukal is almost paradise with it's nature rich ambiance, from wild bat scenery, butterfly garden, water falls, hanging bridge, outdoor stuff to hot spring exhaust that can be seen everywhere. Soaking in the dipping pool at night is really relaxing, the hot water vanish all stresses and boredom that kills you from long days work.

A famous Filipino cuisine dish all over the world, and one of my favorite too. See classic adobe recipe cooking ingredients and directions after this jump.
Chicken Adobo Ingredients:

1/2 kilo pork, cut in cubes
1/2 kilo chicken, cut into pieces
1 head garlic, minced
1/2 yellow onion, diced
1/2 cup soy sauce
1 cup vinegar
2 cups of water
1 teaspoon paprika
5 laurel leaves (bay leaves)
4 tablespoons of cooking oil or olive oil
2 tablespoons cornstarch
3 tablespoons water

Chicken Adobo Cooking Directions:

In a big sauce pan or wok, sauté garlic and onions on cooking hot 2 tablespoons of oil.
Add the pork and chicken to the pan. Add 2 cups of water, 1/4 cup of soy sauce, vinegar, paprika and the bay leaves.
Bring to a boil.
Cover and simmer for 30 minutes or when meat is tender.
Remove the pork and chicken from the sauce pan and on another pan, heat cooking oil and brown the pork and chicken for a few minutes.
Mix the browned pork and chicken back to the sauce and add cornstarch dissolved in water to thicken. Bring to a boil then simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
Serve hot with the adobo gravy and plain rice.

Philippine balance of payments slips into deficit by the month of September

Following nine months of surpluses, but the cumulative surplus for the first nine (9) months of the year stayed above the full-year target of 6,300,000,000 dollars, central bank information sheet showed on Monday.

The (BOP) deficit last month stood at 95,000,000 dollars reversing the surplus of 2,210,000,000 dollars recorded in August. A first monthly BOP deficit since November 2006 when a deficit of 17,000,000 dollars was recorded.

For the first nine (9) months of 2007, the central bank recorded a BOP surplus of 6,660,000,000 dollars, reflecting record-increase cash remittances from Filipinos working abroad, as well as increased foreign investments and exports earnings. On Monday, October 15, the central bank said money sent home by Filipinos working abroad reach 10.6% in August to 1,200,000,000 dollars from the same time a year ago. Remittances for the first eight months runs 15.3% to 9,300,000,000 dollars.

Foreign direct investments for the first seven (7) months rose 68% to 1,600,000,000 dollars, while exports for the first eight (8) months rised to 4.8% to 32,800,000,000 dollars.

The Province of Batanes is the northernmost and the smallest province of the Philippine Republic, both in terms of population and land area. The provincial capital is Basco.

The province is composed of ten islands (called the Batanes Islands) located about 162 km north of the Luzon mainland in the Luzon Strait and is part of the Cagayan Valley region in Luzon. Of this island group, the largest and most economically important are Itbayat, Batan and Sabtang.

How to get in there?

By Sea: Take a sea trip at MV Ivatan Princess which runs the Currimao, Ilocos Norte - Basco, Batanes route. It leaves Ilocos Norte at 8pm on Wednesdays and Sundays and arrives in Basco at 4pm the next day. From Basco, it leaves at 3pm on Tuesdays and 10pm on Fridays. Fare is PhP1,200 and travel time is about 18 hours.

By Air: Take SEAIR, this 19-seater plane flies to Batanes from Manila three times a week, with the following schedules: Manila 6am - Laoag City 7:30am, Mondays, PhP2,000; Laoag City 8am - Basco 9am or Basco 9:30am - Laoag City 10:30am, Wednesdays, PhP1,950; Laoag City 11am - Manila 12:30pm, Fridays, PhP2,000. Fare excludes Insurance Fee of PhP150 and Security Fee of PhP15.

By CHEMTRAD: This 10 seater aircraft flies the Tuguegarao-Basco route. Schedule of flights vary especially during peak season but normally flies on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Travel time is around 1 hour and 30 minutes. Travel fare is around P2,300 one way as of October 2002.

How to get there on Nasugbu

If you are driving car from Makati, take the South Superhighway and exit through Sta. Rosa. Then, go straight towards Silang, Tagaytay and then, Nasugbu. Lots of road signs along the way so you don't need to worry about getting lost. The roads are better and it's a picturesque ride all the way. If you travel by bus, go to the Batangas Laguna Tayabas Bus Co. (BLTB) in Pasay City. Ordinary bus fare costs 55 pesos (one-way,) while an air conditioned ride costs 72 pesos (one-way). The Batangas Laguna Tayabas Bus Co. bus will take you to their terminal near Nasugbu's municipal hall. If you really want to go here on your own, from Tagbilaran, Cebu, you will have to go the bus terminal in Dao and catch a bus going to Carmen. At the entrance of the said bus terminal people will point you to the right bus to ride. Just be sure it is the first one to leave, and ask the bus driver to drop you off at the Chocolate Hills complex, about 4 kilometers before you reach the town of Carmen. From there it's just a 10 minute walk along a roud winding up to the complex.

From here to Tagbilaran, walk back to the main road, and wait for a bus to pass by. The last bus from Carmen going to Tagbilaran leaves at 4pm. Alternatively, you can use the services of the motorcyclists who often wait here for travellers, and ride "the habal-habal," or the motorbike taxi.

If you're coming from Tubigon, there are few buses go to Carmen daily, and sometimes you'll have to wait for some time for the bus to fill up. When you arrive in Carmen, you need to catch the next bus or jeepney in the direction of Bilar, Loay or Tagbilaran, or ask a motorbike taxi driver to bring you to the Chocolate Hills Complex.

Where to stay

If you would like to stay in the Philippine Chocolate Hills, you have few choice. The only facility is the Government run Chocolate Hills resort. At present, this resort hotel is underconstruction for renovation and extention. The personels are friendly, and if you stay there overnight, seeing the sun rise over this bizarre landscape is worth the inconvenience. The paradise place also has a still functional and mainted swimmingpool, which is behind the resort building, a little bit downhill.

Paradise Philippines News: Classes at all levels remain suspended in Metro Manila and 8 provinces today, August 17, due to expected monsoon rains triggered by super typhoon "Egay", Philippine disaster officials announced late Thursday evening.

The said super typhoon, which has halted classes in Manila since Wednesday, also made all schools to close in the Luzon provinces of Cavite, Rizal, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Bataan, Laguna, Batangas and Zambales.

"Because of high probability of rain, we are announcing tonight the suspension of classes in all levels tomorrow [Friday]," Philippine Defense Secretary and National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) chairman Gilberto Teodoro Jr. said.

Gracing the northwestern coastal plains of Negros Island is the quaint city of Silay, a thruly paradise Philippines with its blessed rich volacanic soil, abundant natural water resources and ample rainfall, Silay blazed the trail of sugarcane cultivation at the trun of the last century. By the early 1960's, Silay was at the forefront in sugar mills in its locality. the decline of the sugar industry in the mid 1970's, however, saw the reversal of Silay's fortunes. The drop in the world prices of sugar forced many sugar planters out of the sugar business and by the 1980's its once serene and productive countryside had deteriorated into hotbed of insurgency. In the post-Edsa period, the sugar industry eventually pulled through but Silay never recovered its luster and glory.

In the succeeding years, stubborn hopes for a new sugar bonanza have deprived Silay City of forward-looking leaders that looked beyond sugar production for its sustenance. Faced with non-expanding tax base, the city for the first time in history, eventually incurred a budget shortfall.

The centerpiece of the Master Plan is the development of a new city next to the infrastucture feature-the Silay International Airport. This metropolis is projected to grow around special economic zones and export processing points to be built in the airport's periphery. Access to the airport from the capital city of Bacolod will be through a light railway with a terminal station at Robinson's Place. This mass-transport system is expected to ease traffic congestion in thoroughfares linking the airport to the province's major arteries.

Seen to cut across the new city is a proposed access road to run from Bago City in the South to Victorias City in the North.

Other supplemental infrastructure projects include flyover at the intersection of the national highway and the Aidsisa Road at Brgy. Lantad designed to ease traffic bottlenecks at this junction.

Response to the Master Plan has been upbeat. The Magsaysay have expressed their commitment to develop Hda. Naga, right beside the airport, into a special economic zone to house high-tech industries, while others have expressed interest to build export processing points in the vicinity.

West Negros College has signified its intention to build a school in Hda. Bagacay as human resource base for economic zones. Also in the drawing board are plans for a golf course, a horse race track and a five-star hotel with 3,000-seat convention hall.

The best economical way to get from Cebu to Tagbilaran by sea is to catch a ferry to Tubigon, and by bus from Tubigon to Tagbilaran City. Sometimes it’s faster and much cheaper than taking a boat directly to Tagbilaran.
